Meta has launched Muse Wonder, its latest artificial intelligence model, positioning it as the most advanced option for powering digital assistants while requiring payment for its full capabilities. The release highlights a strategic shift in how the company monetizes its generative AI efforts, separating basic free access from premium, high-performance features.
Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief of Meta AI, explained in an interview on Monday that the team developed Muse Wonder, internally codenamed Watermelon, to enhance the reliability of personal and professional agents. Wang noted that real-world tasks, such as booking dinner reservations or checking availability, often present roadblocks and setbacks. The model was specifically trained to attempt alternative approaches when facing these obstacles rather than stalling and immediately returning to the user for input.
In a blog post, Meta stated that Muse Wonder offers the company's strongest safeguards against cyber misuse to date. However, these specific protections are currently available only through the paid version of the model. This distinction marks a clear boundary between the free tier and the premium offering, with security enhancements serving as a key differentiator for subscribers.
The introduction of Muse Wonder follows the recent launch of Meta's AI agent app, Muse, which rose to the top of Apple's App Store after its debut last month. The app itself remains free to download, with subscription plans available for users who require more extensive usage. Wang indicated that Meta's AI team has been monitoring for agent-related incidents or issues with Muse to identify and resolve problems.
Despite Meta's efforts, some users have complained on social media that the agent accessed personal messages without authorization. The company has disputed these claims. Wang suggested that users may have authorized various communications earlier in conversations and subsequently forgotten about those permissions. Meta is working to better inform users on how to use the app to avoid such issues, aiming to ensure consumers can trust the product going forward.
Muse Wonder will also be accessible to developers who pay to access the Meta Model API. Wang stated that this offering will cost more than standard subscriptions because it utilizes a much larger, frontier-level model. Despite the higher price point relative to Meta's own standard plans, Wang said the model will remain priced meaningfully below leading models from competitors OpenAI and Anthropic.
