Donald Trump announced a $21 billion semiconductor investment by GlobalFoundries, a move that highlights the scale of Japanese capital entering U.S. manufacturing. The company will construct two new facilities in Malta, New York.
The project is expected to generate 27,000 construction and supply-chain jobs, along with more than 1,000 manufacturing positions. Trump also revealed an additional $955 million in federal funding for advanced chip technologies, which brings total government investment to $1.63 billion.
In exchange, the U.S. government will receive equity in GlobalFoundries. Trump valued this stake at more than $2 billion.
