Mar Vista Investment Partners, LLC reported that a broad sell-off in commercial aerospace aftermarket companies weighed on GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) during the third quarter of 2026. The investment management firm attributed the decline to rising jet fuel costs driven by the conflict in Iran, which pressured airline profitability and investor sentiment toward maintenance and replacement parts demand.
In its third-quarter 2026 investor letter for the Mar Vista U.S. Quality Strategy, the firm noted that GE Aerospace and TransDigm underperformed as crude oil prices rose more than 40% above year-ago levels. The letter explained that investors feared higher fuel costs would lead airlines to increase ticket prices, potentially dampening travel demand and reducing service on less profitable routes. This shift in sentiment favored aerospace original equipment manufacturers, as investors anticipated that higher fuel costs would accelerate fleet replacement with more efficient aircraft, thereby reducing shop visits and aftermarket parts demand.
Despite these concerns, Mar Vista stated it had not observed a meaningful deterioration in the operating performance of GE Aerospace or TransDigm. The firm argued that the companies' revenue mixes and profitability provide resilience against these pressures. Mar Vista’s research indicated that industry fundamentals remain sound and that the long-term air travel growth trend of approximately 5% annually remains intact. Consequently, the firm viewed the recent weakness as a response to near-term uncertainty rather than a material change in long-term earnings power.
The Mar Vista U.S. Quality Strategy posted a +1.45% net return during the third quarter of 2026, lagging behind the Russell 1000 Index return of +1.79% and the S&P 500 Index return of +2.30%. Positive contributions came from stock selection in information technology, consumer discretionary, and financials, while industrials, materials, and healthcare detracted from performance. The firm did not initiate new positions but increased its holdings in NVIDIA and reduced its holdings in Apple.
As of October 8, 2026, GE Aerospace closed at $305.62 with a market capitalization of $315.02 billion. The stock recorded a 0.78% year-to-date pullback and traded within a 52-week range of $268.91 to $388.84. Mar Vista described the pullback as an opportunity to increase exposure to durable franchises at more attractive valuations, aiming to support compelling long-term expected returns.
Database records show that 113 hedge fund portfolios held GE Aerospace at the end of the second quarter of 2026, down from 119 in the previous quarter. The stock ranks 26th on a list of 40 most popular stocks among hedge funds heading into 2026.
