Commercial real estate finance sentiment has stabilized, at least on paper. The CRE Finance Council's Second-Quarter 2026 Board of Governors Sentiment Index rose 0.9% to 101.0, up from 100.1 the prior quarter.
CREFC, the trade association for the commercial real estate finance industry, described the shift in plain terms: sentiment has moved "from shock to caution." What 101.0 signals A reading above 100 is, technically, positive territory.
But 101.0 is barely past neutral, and the language the trade council chose points at how much distance remains to cover. "Shock to caution" is an honest diagnosis. It tells you the freefall stopped.
It does not tell you that conviction has returned, or that capital is moving freely again through the commercial real estate finance system. The case for reading this as stabilization rests on the direction of travel.
