Julia Pederson, a 41-year-old pediatrician from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was allegedly strangled by her husband, Jonathan Gatto, before he set their home on fire, according to police. The Harrisburg Bureau of Police stated that the investigation revealed the victim's death was not caused by the fire, which occurred on Saturday, Oct. 10. Gatto, 41, was arrested four days later and charged with murder and arson, among other counts. He is currently held in Dauphin County jail without bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 28.

Pederson held certification from the American Board of Pediatrics and had recently joined the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children's Community Pediatrics (UPMC CCP) in February. Before that appointment, she provided pediatric care across various organizations in Pennsylvania, California and Chicago. Her educational background included an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a UPMC CCP spokesperson described Pederson as a "beloved pediatrician and valued member" of the team who devoted her career to caring for children and supporting families. The organization expressed deep sadness over her passing and requested that the privacy of her family and friends be respected during this difficult time. An obituary noted that through her medical career, Pederson devoted herself to the health and well-being of children and the families who trusted her.

Reports from KATV indicate that the couple's 7-year-old daughter was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom at the time of the incident.
