Homeland Security Investigations executed a raid on the Washington, D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) early Monday morning, a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital. The operation, which began around 6 a.m., was part of a criminal fraud investigation into the congresswoman's immigration paperwork.
Two sources close to the investigation said the search stems from documents filled out by Omar's late father when she was a child. The source described the case as involving the Somali-born representative's immigration history. Federal agents wearing Homeland Security Investigations jackets were seen outside the residence during the early hours of the raid.
The Department of Justice is also involved in the matter. A DOJ spokesperson confirmed that HSI executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice, stating the action is part of an ongoing federal investigation. The Department of Homeland Security led the operation alongside HSI, which serves as the principal investigative arm of DHS.
Border czar Tom Homan previously indicated in mid-September that Omar was subject to an ongoing criminal investigation. HSI's scope includes investigating cross-border crime and global threats such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cybercrime, as well as playing a major front-line role in counterterrorism operations.
