Spouses of Trump administration Cabinet members rely on a private social circle to navigate life in Washington, according to a recent podcast appearance. On Thursday's episode of Fox News' "the Girls" podcast, actress Cheryl Hines and Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy detailed how these spouses maintain friendships through regular gatherings and shared experiences at official functions.
Campos-Duffy, wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, explained that the group meets approximately once a month. She described the arrangement as a "club" similar to an international club, where most Cabinet spouses are members. These reunions often coincide with crowded White House events or are scheduled as separate lunches and "girls' nights out." The pair noted that while they frequently encounter one another at large administration parties, the chaotic environment makes meaningful conversation difficult. Consequently, they prioritize creating dedicated time outside of official duties to connect.
Cheryl Hines, wife of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., said that spotting familiar faces in large crowds provides a sense of comfort. Hines, known for her role in HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," recounted how she and Campos-Duffy gravitate toward each other at events to check in. "It's nice to have a pal," Hines said, emphasizing the value of having a reliable contact in a sea of people.
The conversation also touched on domestic life within the administration, specifically regarding Kennedy's advocacy for the "Make America Healthy Again" movement. Kennedy has urged Americans to reduce consumption of ultra-processed foods and has raised concerns about seed oils. Hines shared an anecdote about catching her husband eating potato chips. While he questions whether she will continue eating them in his presence, Hines stated she persists because she is not "shoplifting." She noted that Kennedy brings these dietary topics to the forefront of their household.
When asked by host Harris Faulkner whether Kennedy ever indulges in his own cravings, Hines laughed and described his inability to stop at a single bite. She explained that when Kennedy eats desserts like cake, he consumes the entire portion rather than just a small taste.
