The People's Bank of China firms the yuan fix to 6.7882

The yuan strengthened in Beijing's morning fix. The People's Bank of China set the USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7882, a level firmer than the prior session's 6.7900.

The move is 0.0018, and any claim about what it means beyond that number requires more than one day's data. What the fix does China's central bank publishes a reference midpoint before onshore trading opens each morning.

The yuan can trade within a band around that anchor. The rate is a policy instrument, not a market output. Shifting it toward yuan strength, even narrowly, is a deliberate choice. The fix went from 6.7900 to 6.7882.

Fewer yuan per dollar is a stronger yuan. That is the arithmetic in full. The counterargument Single-session adjustments deserve skepticism.
