Term Finance, a decentralized lending protocol, suffered an estimated $8.5 million loss to a governance exploit.

The case for on-chain governance controls took a direct hit: the protocol had two layers of protection built into its vault proposal system, and apparently neither stopped the attack.

The mechanics of those controls are specific. Term Finance requires a seven-day delay before any vault proposal can take effect.

During that window, liquidity providers hold an explicit veto power, giving them both time and a defined mechanism to block changes they consider harmful.
