StarkWare runs quantum-resistant Bitcoin spend on mainnet, with strings attached

Quantum-resistant Bitcoin ($BTC) spending without a protocol fork is now a mainnet fact, at least in experimental form. StarkWare ran the demonstration live.

It cost up to $200 and required submission directly to a miner, bypassing the standard mempool. Those two conditions carry as much information as the result itself.

The case for the experiment is specific: doing this without a fork. Bitcoin's governance is slow by design, and any solution requiring protocol changes faces years of community debate with no guaranteed outcome.

A mainnet demonstration also sets a different evidentiary bar than a test-network proof.
