Square is introducing the Square Kiosk, a large ordering device that combines a 21.5-inch touchscreen with an "agentic, conversational voice layer." The new hardware allows customers to interact with an AI agent to place orders, a development that shifts the point-of-sale interface from static menus to real-time dialogue.
According to Square, the voice layer fully understands a seller's menu and responds in real time, enabling customers to order in the way they would naturally talk to staff.
During these interactions, users can ask questions and request modifications or substitutions. The device features a large pill shape and includes presence detection technology that welcomes customers as they approach.
