The US Preventive Services Task Force has seats filled for the first time in over a year.

Kennedy Jr., who had deliberately sidelined the 16-person federal panel by canceling its meetings and declining to replace members as terms expired, announced eight new appointments.

That the body can now convene is one thing. What it will do with that capacity is another. The USPSTF occupies an unusual position in American healthcare.

Its recommendations carry a legal mandate: health insurers must cover, at no cost to patients, any preventive service the panel grades A or B on its scoring scale.
