The case for buying a gaming laptop right now is weak, and the warehouses know it.

An unprecedented rise in the cost of RAM, with storage costs climbing to a lesser extent, has pushed machines with low-to-midrange specifications well past what their hardware justifies.

The one exception worth attention: MSI's Katana 15 HX (2025), currently listed at $1,133.67 at Amazon, down from its $1,499.99 sticker price.

What's changed in the sub-$1,200 tier The read-through from this pricing environment is blunt. The RTX 4070 and RTX 5070 GPU variants that once surfaced in laptops around this price point are gone for now.
