Indiana Fever claim Eastern Conference lead on Mitchell's 28 points as a third-quarter wobble raises the real question

Indiana Fever moved to the top of the WNBA Eastern Conference on Tuesday, beating the New York Liberty 106-92 for their seventh win in nine games.

The case for Indiana as the conference's front-runner is now in the standings. What complicates it: the Fever's offense stalled in the third quarter.

New York closed within nine points, and Indiana had to work to push the lead back out. Mitchell and Clark set the terms in the first half Kelsey Mitchell did the most damage before halftime.

She scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half, making 11 of 16 field-goal attempts and four three-pointers. Caitlin Clark finished with 22 points and 10 assists, also connecting four times from beyond the arc.
