Hawthorn Bancshares loses board director Jonathan Holtaway, a specialist in community bank valuation and M&A

The seat Jonathan "Jon" Holtaway occupied on Hawthorn Bancshares' (NASDAQ: HWBK) board since 2019 is now vacant.

Holtaway, president of Virginia-based Ategra Capital Management, LLC, a registered investment advisory firm he founded in 2005, died September 4, 2026, at 55.

The case for his value to the Jefferson City, Missouri holding company rested on a specificity the board will struggle to replace: a career investor in bank and thrift securities, with expertise in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, equity valuation, and corporate governance, serving as a sitting director.

Holtaway also served as managing member of Ategra GP, LLC, the general partner for two investment funds. Ategra Community Financial Institution Fund, LP invested primarily in bank and thrift securities.
