Five years after Gabby Petito's remains were found in a remote Wyoming campground, her mother Nichole Schmidt is pressing a specific argument to the public: that attention to missing-person flyers on social media can lead to real outcomes, but only if people engage with them deliberately rather than reflexively.

Schmidt spoke to Fox News Digital on Friday, the anniversary of the September 19, 2021, discovery of Petito's body north of Jackson, Wyoming.

Petito is believed to have been killed three weeks before that by her former fiance, Brian Laundrie.

Laundrie drove back to his parents' house in Florida in her Ford Transit van before taking his own life in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.
