A federal judge has ordered Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery to stop their $111 billion merger from closing, granting a temporary restraining order to the coalition of states that sued to block it.
The case cuts to a real tension: the Trump administration cleared the deal, yet twelve states argue the combination is too damaging to competition to stand. One of those two positions will have to give.
What the order does The temporary restraining order bars the companies from completing the merger and from consolidating operations.
It runs for 14 days, but the court can convert it into a preliminary injunction that would hold the deal in suspension until the full case is resolved.
