Federal judge blocks USPS from enforcing mail-in ballot restrictions before 2026 midterms

A Massachusetts federal court has handed the Trump administration another legal setback on its election integrity executive order, with the question of whether the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes before November now live.

District Judge Indira Talwani granted a preliminary injunction Tuesday blocking the U.S.

Postal Service from implementing Section 3 of Executive Order 14399 before the November 3, 2026 midterm elections, or any earlier federal election. The Trump administration is expected to appeal to the 1st U.S.

Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.
