Pennsylvania prosecutors say the former Ukrainian Catholic priest stole more than $740,000 from the churches he served, the Knights of Columbus, and his own mother, a woman prosecutors say was unable to manage her own finances because of her age.
He was arrested last month in Vero Beach, Florida, and extradited back to Pennsylvania.
The attorney general's office says Madeya fraudulently misappropriated nearly $320,000 from churches and donors during the period he served at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Derry Township, with investigators placing the start of the scheme in 2018.
