Alibaba shares jump 4% as China clears Apple Intelligence for Qwen integration

China's Cyberspace Administration added Apple's AI services to its list of approved providers on Wednesday, clearing regulatory ground for Alibaba's Qwen model to be integrated into Apple Intelligence.

Alibaba's U.S.-listed shares rose 4% on the news.

The approval is a commercial signal as much as a regulatory one: Qwen is now positioned to enter one of the world's most widely used consumer ecosystems, on terms that Beijing alone controls.

What the approval actually unlocks The Cyberspace Administration of China decides which AI services can operate for Chinese users. Apple needed that clearance before Apple Intelligence could reach the country.
