Abel calls Japanese bond yields a non-issue for trading houses, for now

Japanese bond yields are not a problem for the country's trading houses.

That is the position Greg Abel, Berkshire Hathaway's chief executive, laid out on CNBC's "Squawk Box." What complicates the reassurance is the qualifier he attached: "right now." The case for Abel's read is simple.

Yields in Japan remain relatively low, by his assessment, and when funding costs stay contained the businesses that depend on them can operate without structural pressure.

The read-through for investors with Japanese trading-house exposure is that the current environment is, in Berkshire's view, manageable.
