A proposal to create the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrived in Congress Thursday with the scope to investigate presidential financial conflicts stretching back to January 20, 2025, including the Trump family's crypto ventures that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claims have contributed to at least $4 billion in total family earnings since Trump took office.
So is the structural trap at its center: a board appointed by the president it exists to police.
What the bill proposes The Anti-Corruption Bureau would absorb three existing federal watchdog bodies: the Office of Government Ethics, the Federal Election Commission, and the Office of Special Counsel.
Seven board members would lead the agency, appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, with no more than three from either party and a seventh nonpartisan seat.
